TexFlexSM health care is a flexible spending account (FSA) that lets you pay for planned out-of-pocket health care expenses tax-free.
If you are enrolled in TexFlex health care and retire during the plan year, you can continue your participation through COBRA. If you do not continue through COBRA, your account will be closed on your last day of employment and you can only submit claims for expenses you incurred before you ended employment.
Regardless of whether you continue participation through COBRA, your TexFlex debit card will be deactivated on the last day of month in which your employment ends.
Rehired or return to work?
If you are rehired within the same plan year that you left state employment, make sure to tell your employer if you were previously participating in TexFlex Health Care Account.
To ensure your enrollment is enter correctly, your new agency will need to contact ERS and/or your previous agency.
