Understanding behavioral health

December 06, 2021

Behavioral health refers to a number of mental health issues that may affect your overall well-being. These include stress, anxiety, depression and other common mood disorders, as well as substance-use disorders, eating disorders or psychotic disorders.

Your emotional state may impact your physical health. If you’re struggling, seeking treatment may help you feel better so you can live a healthier life.

Asking for help is a sign of strength

If you’re enrolled in a HealthSelectSM plan administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), you have access to a team of dedicated clinicians who are available to provide support and guidance for concerns including substance use issues, anger management, anxiety, depression, domestic violence, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder and stress. Care management is available at no out-of-pocket cost to you.

To speak to a clinician about a mental health concern, call BCBSTX toll-free at (800) 252-8039 (TTY:711) between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday and ask to speak with a clinician.

If you’re enrolled in HealthSelectSM Medicare Advantage Plan preferred provider organization (MA PPO), call UnitedHealthcare®’s Behavioral Health Services at the number on the back of your member ID card, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A trained specialist will help you identify your issue and find the right resources to address it. If you have a computer or device with a webcam (and a strong internet connection), you can have a live video chat with a behavioral health specialist—any time, day or night. You will first need to set up a virtual visit account and then schedule an appointment. Contact the Customer Service number on the back of your member ID card for help.
