Health Insurance Opt-Out Credit for Active Employees
If you are an active state employee and you have other group health insurance that is comparable to the Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) health insurance, you are eligible to opt-out of your GBP health insurance. Eligible employees can sign up for a monthly Opt-Out Credit to apply toward the premium for certain optional benefits.
Full-time employees can earn up to a $60 credit to apply to toward GBP dental, vision and/or Voluntary Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance premium(s). Part-time employees can earn up to a $30 credit toward their dental, vision and/or Voluntary AD&D premium(s).
Opt-Out Eligibility
- To receive the Opt-Out Credit, you must be eligible for the state contribution toward your GBP insurance—100% for full-time employees and 50% for part-time employees.
- You cannot participate in the Opt-Out Credit if you are not eligible for the state contribution toward your health insurance premium. This includes COBRA participants, surviving dependents and adjunct faculty members.
- You must be able to certify you have comparable health insurance coverage (for example, through another employer health plan), excluding Medicare. If you have Medicare, you are not eligible for the credit.
Opting Out: What You Should Know
Your prescription drug benefits are part of your health benefit. If you opt-out of your health plan, you are also giving up your prescription drug coverage and Basic Term Life Insurance coverage.
