Medicaid, HIPP and Chip for Retirees
Your dependent becoming eligible or ineligible for Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a qualifying life event (QLE) to make election changes to your benefits.
Medicaid or CHIP eligible
If your dependent(s) becomes eligible for Medicaid or CHIP, you have 31 days including the coverage begin date to make changes to your benefits elections.
You can drop your dependent(s) from your health and/or dental coverage (must be consistent with the gained coverage).
Dependents cannot be enrolled in both CHIP and the State of Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP). If your dependent(s) is currently enrolled in both, please contact ERS to let us know.
Medicaid or CHIP ineligible
If your dependent is not currently enrolled in the GBP and no longer Medicaid or CHIP eligible, you have 60 days including the date they lose coverage to make changes to your benefits elections.
You can add your dependent(s) from your health and/or dental coverage (must be consistent with the coverage change).
Medicaid and HIPP
If your dependent is not currently enrolled in the GBP and they become eligible for premium assistance through Medicaid or HIPP, you have 60 days including the coverage begin date to make changes to your benefits elections. You can add your dependent(s) from your health and/or dental coverage (must be consistent with the gained coverage).
