According to the recent ERS Retirement and Benefits Survey Report almost 85 percent of employees consider the Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) to be a valuable part of their total compensation.

Health coverage benefits include:
  • health,
  • dental,
  • vision and
  • life insurance.
ERS also offers wellness programs to improve the quality of the life and longevity of its employees such as:

Retirement

Most employees of Texas agencies become members of the ERS retirement plan as soon as they start working. The state retirement plan is a defined benefit plan. That means, as an employee when you choose to retire after reaching eligibility, you will get a monthly payment (or annuity) for the rest of your life— no matter how long you live.
Note: Employees of higher education institutions do not participate in the ERS retirement program. Visit the Higher Education Employees page for more information.
